Lowest Jobless Claims Since 1969

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, there's a crush of economic news today. The jobless claims report fell to 199,000. That's the lowest since November 15, 1969. Last year, Jobless claims peaked at over 20 times the current level.
The Q3 GDP growth report was revised from 2% up to 2.1%. That's annualized and inflation adjusted.
Durable goods orders fell 0.5% while Wall Street had been expecting an increase of 0.3%.
However, excluding transportation, durable goods orders increased 0.5%, and excluding defense they were up 0.8%.

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits plummeted last week to the lowest level in more than half a century, another sign that the U.S. job market is rebounding rapidly from last year's coronavirus recession.
Jobless claims dropped by 71,000 to 199,000, the lowest since mid-November 1969. But seasonal adjustments around the Thanksgiving holiday contributed significantly to the bigger-than-expected drop. Unadjusted, claims actually ticked up by more than 18,000 to nearly 259,000.

The DOL reported :
In the week ending November 20, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 199,000, a decrease of 71,000 from the previous week's revised level. This is the lowest level for initial claims since November 15, 1969 when it was 197,000. The previous week's level was revised up by 2,000 from 268,000 to 270,000. The 4-week moving average was 252,250, a decrease of 21,000 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since March 14, 2020 when it was 225,500.
